Over a career spanning 60 years, he has continued to reinvent himself and work on exciting projects ranging from the film Alfie to three of the James Bond franchise's most successful and iconic films. R.I.P. Terence Marsh (1931-2018)

Terence Marsh
On January 9, 2018, production designer Terence Marsh passed away at the age of 86 in Pacific Palisades, California. In a career that spanned over 50 years, he created some of the most iconic and beautiful looks to various films ranging from Doctor Zhivago to The Shawshank Redemption. In that time, he helped to shape the look of epics and period pieces with some of the most distinctive looks imaginable. Ranking the 9 Best Picture Musical Winners

Scene from La La Land
This Sunday marks the event that everyone has been waiting for: Oscar Sunday. While everyone makes their last minute predictions (I will be sharing mine tomorrow), there is one agreed consensus: this is La La Land's year for Best Picture. The musical has received unanimous acclaim for its spectacular craft. Provided nothing changes and it wins, it will join a small list of musicals that have achieved an honor that only 88 movies have achieved so far. What's more surprising is that there's been only nine musicals to have won the category despite being one of Hollywood's most iconic genres. Which is the best of the bunch? Click on to find out, and come back on Monday, provided that it wins, to find out where La La Land falls on the list of the best Oscar-winning Best Picture musicals.

Why We Need More Kid Friendly Best Picture Nominees

Scene from Pete's Dragon
With August coming to a close, the general conversation has switched over to the familiar broad topic: was this a good summer at the movies? Most people would argue that everything was disappointing, and the three weeks of Suicide Squad topping the box office remains disconcerting for some. However, August has made a strong case against this being a total waste with the presence of Pete's Dragon and last weekend's phenomenal Kubo and the Two Strings. Despite middling box office for both, they reflect that best that blockbuster entertainment can be. In a time where the Oscars want to branch out and reflect a more diverse pallet of genre fare, there is one question that could be asked: Can family cinema get nominated for Best Picture? To be totally honest, I think that we should greatly consider these two movies when it comes time to fill out those ballots.

Nothing But the Best: "Oliver!" (1968)

Mark Lester in Oliver!
Welcome to the series Nothing But the Best in which I chronicle all of the Academy Award Best Picture winners as they celebrate their anniversaries. Instead of going in chronological order, this series will be presented on each film's anniversary and will feature personal opinions as well as facts regarding its legacy and behind the scenes information. The goal is to create an in depth essay for each film while looking not only how the medium progressed, but how the film is integral to pop culture. In some cases, it will be easy. Others not so much. Without further ado, let's start the show.

R.I.P. Ron Moody (1924-2015)

Ron Moody
On June 11, actor Ron Moody passed away in a London Hospital. He was born Ronald Moodnick in 1924 and legally changed his name to Ron Moody in 1930. He was related to director Laurence Moody and Clare Lawrence. He has also said of himself to be 100% Jewish. Having had a career in the Royal Air Force, his initial dreams of being a technician were sidetracked when he found his new love: theater. While he was a versatile actor who participated in various genres, he will always be remembered as the character Fagin in the stage and film adaptation of Charles Dickens' "Oliver Twist." In both cases, he received award nominations and considered it fate that he would play the character on and off between 1960 and 1984.
