Katharine Hepburn in On Golden Pond |
Today, May 10, is Mother's Day. There's a strong chance that if you are reading this, you have someone who loved you and raised you. In fact, it is likely that they are with you at your house right now, enjoying a barbecue and enjoying a day meant entirely to honor their achievements and sacrifices in their life. While I unfortunately didn't have time to compile a list of great Oscar winning mothers (the most recent would have been Julianne Moore in Still Alice), I have found a video that proves that even the greatest of artists have taken some time to pay tribute to their mothers. Follow after the jump to watch a video dedicated to honoring the woman who raised you for all of those years and making you the person you are today.
If you aren't subscribed to them, please take some time to check out the Oscars YouTube page. For the most part, they have been a wonderful resource for Oscar fans by providing clips from the various broadcasts of the biggest moments in the show's history. There's all of the acceptance speeches, the interstitial performance numbers, and the host doing their familiar riffing. They also occasionally have original videos exploring our fascination with film culture. If you are at all interested in the Oscars, I recommend subscribing today and getting a glimpse at the best quality videos on the subject of Academy Awards that the internet has to offer.
In the case of Mother's Day, they have shared a video compiling a list of various winners who have thanked their parent from behind the podium. The short video shows the many ways in which they have been honored, some even touchingly comedic.
Check out the video:
How many did you recognize?
Now that we have had a loving tribute to mothers, please go out and celebrate today with her and make the most of it. You only have one, and she'll be expecting you to thank her when you eventually win your Oscar.
