This past weekend, The Academy held its annual Governors Ball where it handed out Honorary Oscars to four deserving individuals within the film community. This year's recipients included Agnes Varda, Donald Sutherland, Owen Roizman, Charles Burnett, and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu for the first special Oscar win in over 20 years. The ceremony was a lively event packed with speeches not only from the winners, but of various people sharing stories and tribute to these artists. To watch all of the videos, click below and see all of the memorable events that played out at the event, which for that night at least could be called "The dance of cinema."
The night opened with a special montage video of various movies, actors, and events throughout The Academy's lifetime. Along with last year's digital video package for the Oscar announcements, this move to more viral structures has become more of a regular occurrence with The Academy, and it's something that has helped to make it feel more lively.
The ceremony began with a speech by new Academy President John Bailey, who made sure to recognize the work of the industry and the various talents being recognized that night.
Kicking off the ceremony was Steven Spielberg, who gave a toast to the five winners of the night. He also gave a quick synopsis of their contribution to cinema and why their work matters. It was a nice start to a busy night full of speeches, of which is listed below by recipient. While the video for the winner will be placed in this article, I will be linking off to the various other speeches given in places labeled below the video. Enjoy.

There was also an Honorary Oscar handed out to Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu for his virtual reality project CARNE y ARENA.
