Yesterday saw the announcement of a record-breaking 683 new members of The Academy. Today, the news keeps on coming, and it's big news for those who those who like to mark their calendars. That's right, today The Academy announced the important dates for every upcoming event from the Governors Awards to the voting dates and the ceremony itself. What's most interesting is that things will be happening a little differently this year. In fact, they will be happening a little closer to the chest than normal, and with some interesting results likely to come with. Check out the dates after the jump.
President Cheryl Boone Isaacs has announced her plan to make The Oscars more relevant to the current cinematic landscape. This included adding a more diverse pallet of members and also making voting more of a compelling challenge. For instance, the nomination voting is happening a staggering six days later than normal this season. Whereas it usually takes place during the last week of December, it is now taking place during the first week of January. That and many more dates came in today's news:

There's not a lot that's too impressive, but it is nice to know that the turnaround time between the Oscar nominations and the actual ceremony is a little over a month. It always gets exhausting trying to find fodder to write about for that long, especially in the face of recent scandals such as Oscars So White. However, it looks like things are changing, and hopefully for the better. So mark your calendars and prepare for another exciting season of coverage as I count down the days of the next eight months.
