As fun as it is to see who wins competitive Oscars every year, it's just as exciting to see who is going to receive a Governor's Award. Every year has produced an interesting collection of recipients, all voted upon by Oscar voters. This year is no different, as the results have produced an exciting array of talent that ranges from directors to actors who have made a strong impact on the industry. the Class of 2019 has indeed an interesting group, which includes David Lynch, Wes Studi, Lina Wertmuller, and the Jean Herscholt Award recipient Geena Davis. It's an exciting group and features one of the most eclectic mixes in recent years.

The First "Ford v. Ferrari" Trailer Looks to Speed Things Up This Oscar Season

As the summer months warm up, it's time to start looking forward to Oscar season. While it has become more of a year-round event, it's still dominated by Fall releases. There's been plenty to look forward to, such as John Crowley's The Goldfinch, but few feel as anticipatory as the latest from director James Mangold. In what is one of the buzziest films yet, Ford v. Ferrari released a trailer featuring Oscar-winners Christian Bale and Matt Damon. Along with Mangold's recent Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay for Logan (a rare comic book nomination), the film has a lot of fire in its belly and looks to be one of the more exciting period pieces of 2019. If anything, the racing looks cool and the chemistry between its leads look to be a big enough reason to see the film, even if it turns out to just be fine.

After a longer than expected hiatus, it's time for the return of Composing Greatness. The column recognizes the best in movie music composition by analyzing the work of greats through their Oscar-nominated work. Past subjects have included such figures as John Williams, Rachel Portman, and Thomas Newman. In the latest installment, I thought that I would shift focus to someone whose work holds a significant place in pop culture in a different way. This Oscar-nominated composer not only received nominations for three Best Picture winners but also worked on two of the highest grossing movies in box office history. Who is this amazing talent?
