Best Song: Recap of the Best and Worst Songs

Photos from the 2000 Academy Awards Ceremony of the Best Original Song nominees
Welcome to Best Song, a new weekly column released on Sunday dedicated to chronicling the Best Original Song category over the course of its many decades. The goal is to listen to and critique every song that has ever been nominated in the category as well as find the Best Best Song and the Best Loser. By the end, we'll have a comprehensive list of this music category and will hopefully have a better understanding not only of the evolution, but what it takes to receive a nomination here. It may seem easy now, but wait until the bad years.

The Preface

Here we are at the end of regular coverage of Best Song. It's sad to think that it's already over. It's been fun listening to hundreds of songs that have enhanced my understanding of what The Academy Awards are, as well as given me a deeper appreciation for various artists along the way. In Part 1 of 3 for my recap, I will be taking a look at the numbers and lists that have been made over the course of this column. I will be highlighting the highs and lows of my quest as well as personal insight into each section. Unfortunately, this doesn't include any nominee that didn't make either Best Loser or Best Best Song list (though please look through my many columns for the various hidden gems). Make sure to also come back next week when I'll be listing songs that should've been nominated. There's a lot of fun to be had with that one.

I want to say thanks again to those who have been supportive and have left feedback. I have enjoyed doing this column and I'm saddened that this is the end of regular coverage. As I mentioned at the top, I am doing two more installments of this recap. If you feel bad that this wasn't more wordy and opinionated, please feel free to come back in two weeks where I will share all of my closing remarks. For now, this is pretty much a pure version of the lists I have compiled over the past 82 weeks. It's quite impressive. I would've done plenty different, but that's the price you pay. Still, it's quite an impressive list if you ask me. See you next week.
