David O. Russell's "Nailed" Gets Renamed and a Release Date

Nowadays, director David O. Russell is a mastermind of the modern drama. With his past three films (The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle), he has become a reliable source for mainstream acting successes and has helped to make Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper as mainstays. He can practically do no wrong. However, there has been one film that hasn't seen the light of day in over six years. It is a film with a notorious history that much like Serena was possibly never going to be released. Despite any objection, the long awaited film Nailed (now called Politics in Love) will finally see the light of day in 2015. Read on to find out more.

Here's a quick rundown of Politics in Love's tumultuous history. In 2008, before The Fighter became his resurgence, Russell took on this political satire full of the acidic wit that had come to define him. With multiple production shutdowns due to financial reasons, Russell left the film after filming almost all of it. As of 2010, he has been eager to distance himself from the actual project which has an interesting cast that includes Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Biel. There were screenings in 2011, but they weren't positive. Despite his absence, Kia Jam decided to edit together a final project, which was eventually sold to Arrow Films. This is supposedly to alter greatly from the 2011 version that received very negative opinions.

Formerly known as Nailed (David O. Russell), Politics Of Love tells the story of a small town waitress (Biel), who accidentally gets a nail lodged in her head as her boyfriend (Marsden) attempts his marriage proposal. Her predicament leads her on a journey to Washington DC, where she meets a dashing but clueless congressman (Gyllenhaal), who might be able to help her unusual case.

Will their blossoming romance survive the cut-throat politics of the Capital? With an all-star cast that also includes Catherine Keener, Tracy Morgan, James Brolin and Paul Reubens, Politics Of Love is the funny story of what happens when sparks fly and love interferes with what you stand for.

Sounds like it could be all right. With Gyllenhaal having a very interesting year with Enemy and Nightcrawler, there's chances that it could be easy to bank off of it. Also, the supporting cast is rather excellent. While I feel concern that the film is inherently flawed by the disowning of its director, I also want to believe that there's something there. While there hasn't been any word yet on the quality of the new cut, we should know soon enough. The film will have a UK and Ireland release sometime in the early 2015. 

This should be especially interesting, as it opens alongside another Russell film. Coming out around Christmas time, Joy marks the latest collaboration between Russell and Jennifer Lawrence about entrepreneur Joy Mangano. While that film will likely be a big Oscar contender, it's interesting to see a pre-Oscar nominated Russell film in this day and age. Will it be terrible? Possibly, especially since the director doesn't care. However, it was from a time when Russell was delightfully cynical. Who knows. As of now, there isn't an American release, but it can't be too far behind.
